At Gracelands we have always believed in the importance of outdoor learning but by introducing Forest School to our children’s curriculum we are extending their outdoor experience further. All children who attend our school get to take part in Forest School sessions lead by Mrs Lindsey Miles, a qualified Forest School practitioner.
The main objectives for these sessions are the development of Personal, Social and Emotional Development—including the promotion of self-esteem, independence skills, emotional resilience, and building relationships with others.
Research has shown that the Forest School approach also has positive outcomes in terms of Language and Communication, Motivation and Concentration, Physical Skills and Knowledge and Understanding of the natural environment
The children are encouraged to develop their own ideas during the sessions but some of the things your child may do whilst they are at Forest School are:
Go on a minibeast hunt Build shelters and dens
Play games Share ideas and work together
Make things using natural materials Look after our garden and woods
Make mud Build homes for wildlife
Look for changes in our environment Help make a campfire
Have fun whatever the weather!
